Privacy Policy

The short version

  • VoiceMagic has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
  • Your recordings and creations are saved only on your device. We never upload them to our own servers, and we do not operate any servers that receive them.
  • When you create a character voice, the text you enter is sent to our text-to-speech provider, Baidu AI Cloud, to generate the audio.
  • When you use voice dictation, your speech is processed by Apple's speech recognition service.
  • The Lie Detector is a game. It does not read your fingerprint or any biometric data.

1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how the VoiceMagic iOS application (the "App", "we", "us") handles information when you use it. By using the App you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Information we process and why

We do not ask for your name, phone number, contacts, location, photos or any other personal identifiers, and the App works without creating an account.

3. Device permissions

  • Microphone: used only when you start a recording or dictation. You can turn it off at any time in iOS Settings > VoiceMagic. Other features keep working without it.
  • Speech Recognition: used only to convert your dictation into text. You can turn it off in iOS Settings > VoiceMagic and type your text instead.

The App does not access the camera, photo library, contacts, location, Face ID or Touch ID.

4. Third-party services

Baidu AI Cloud (text-to-speech)

To generate character voices, the text you enter is sent to Baidu AI Cloud's speech synthesis service, which returns an audio file. The text is not linked to your identity by us, and we do not send any device identifiers, recordings or other personal data along with it. Baidu processes the text in accordance with its own privacy policy: Baidu AI Cloud Privacy Policy. Please do not enter sensitive personal information (such as ID numbers, passwords or health details) into the text box.

Apple

Speech recognition is provided by Apple. Audio from your dictation may be sent to Apple to be transcribed. App Store ratings and the share sheet are also handled by Apple. Apple's handling of this data is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.

Sharing you choose to do

When you share or export a creation, the file is passed to the app or service you select (for example Messages, Files or a social app). That destination's own privacy policy then applies.

5. International data transfers

Baidu AI Cloud's servers are located in the People's Republic of China. If you use the character voice feature, the text you enter will be transferred to and processed in China, which may have data protection rules different from those in your country. Apple may process dictation audio on servers in various countries. By using these features you consent to such transfers. If you do not want your text processed outside your country, please do not use the character voice feature. Record & Change, Prank Sounds and the Lie Detector work entirely on your device.

6. Storage, retention and deletion

  • Recordings and creations are stored in the App's private storage on your device until you delete them.
  • You can delete any creation from the Me tab. Uninstalling the App removes all of its data from your device.
  • We do not keep copies of your text, recordings or creations, because they never reach our servers.
  • Text sent to Baidu AI Cloud and dictation audio sent to Apple are retained according to their respective privacy policies.
  • Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your request, and you can ask us to delete them.

7. What we do not do

  • We do not show ads or use advertising SDKs.
  • We do not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs that collect your data.
  • We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA).
  • We do not sell, rent or share your personal information for advertising or marketing.
  • We do not collect fingerprints or any biometric data. The fingerprint pad in the Lie Detector is an animation, and results are generated randomly.

8. Children's privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we have no accounts and do not store your data on our servers, we generally hold no personal information at all. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK, or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent. Because your content stays on your device, you can exercise most of these rights directly:

  • Delete creations in the Me tab, or uninstall the App to remove all local data.
  • Withdraw microphone or speech recognition permission in iOS Settings.
  • Stop sending text to Baidu AI Cloud by not using the character voice feature.

For any other request, contact us at the email below. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Security

Text sent to Baidu AI Cloud is transmitted over HTTPS. Content stored on your device is protected by iOS app sandboxing and, when your device is locked with a passcode, by iOS data protection. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add new features. We will post the updated version on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If changes are significant, we will also let you know in the App or in the App Store release notes.
